Tales from the Wine Trail
Tasting Notes - Domaine Bressy-Masson, Rasteau - July 2008

We spent July 5 in the very hospitable presence of Marie-France and Thierry Masson. We began with a tasting in the morning, at which Paul Emile make a brief appearance and Madame Bressy a longer one. Lunch in the lovely town of Malucène was followed by a drive to the top of Mont Ventoux, which dominates the entire southern Rhone. The views were spectacular and the drive exhilerating!
All was very well with the wines -- as our notes below indicate.
Rasteau-Villages 06 - (25-30 year ild vines) pretty and welcoming nose of black fruit (cassis), good material, tannins on very good length. (in stock)
Rasteau Souco 05 - (50 year old vines) sweet black fruits, spice and undergrowth on nose, follows softly onto pal with lovely fruit + spice, finishes easily but very, very long. (2004 in stock)
Rasteau Gloire de mon Pere 05 - gorgeous nose of black fruits (cherry), quite open, very rich and sweet, silky, big finish, very good length. Selected by Bettene-Dessault Guide. (2003 in stock)
Rasteau Paul Emile 06 - tight dark nose, superb fruit, lots of tannin and structure, still very young, vvery good length, very, very promising. (2001 in stock)
Rasteau Vin Doux Rouge - gorgeous nose of complex fruits, mouth of sweet fruits with bright structure;
wonderful effect, very good length. This tasty aperitif is also used by many chefs in cooking -- we're leaning toward bringing some in but the LCBO's new 15 case minimum may prohit us.
