Domaine de Bacarra — Beaujolais-Villages
Philippe & Nicole Bonhomme
produce their wines on a
magnificent property in the hills above St. Etienne-La-Varenne that has
been in her family (Durieu) since 1600.
The average age of the vines is 35-40 years but the portion of the
harvest which they raise and bottle themselves comes from the oldest
vines which reach more than 80 years of age. They produce a wine with
the concentration and power to best many Crus.
Here is a four-season photo collage of the property!
Beaujolais-Villages 2005 — After being a regular offer at Vintages for the past four years, we're delighted to have the Bacarra 2005 available through consignment. It was a perfect year in Beaujolais and the lovely balance of ripe fruit to acid in the grapes promised much.
Tasting update -- January 2008: This lovely Villages from one of Burgundy's finest vintages is showing seamless integration of black and red fruits, beginning with a beguiling nose and following onto palate with a rich and ripe maturity and not a hint of waekening. At its best over the next year, our final allotment is now here. Perfect slightly chilled with a wide variety of foods.
"Offers beautiful ripe fruit on nose featuring black cherries, carries perfectly onto the palate, excellent depth and concentration, well supported and leads to very good length. A treat to drink right away with plenty of promise for the coming two years." (JPO, St Etienne, July 2006 and Toronto, November 2006)
