Domaine Bressy-Masson — Rasteau
Marie-France Masson owns 34 hectares of superb vineyards in
Rasteau featuring 100+ year-old vines and she and husband Thierry follow a winemaking approach
that is respectful of the terroir. Recently, their son Paul-Emile has formally joined the
Domaine after completing his degree and article in oenelology. They
make exceptionally rich and
concentrated wines from old-vine Grenache and Syrah. Rasteau has long
been
one of our favorites from the group of southern Rhône-Villages.
“One of the up-and-coming estates from Rasteau … deserve[s]
serious attention” — Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate.
Currently in the LCBO lab:
Rasteau-Villages 2005 (1/2 bottles only for now) — quiet nose, lovely sweet black fruits in the mouth, easy and fresh, very good length. (JPO/DMO Rasteau June 2007)
Rasteau-Villages 2004 — "Open-knit and delicious…aromas of chocolate-covered black cherries emerge from this medium-bodied, soft, elegant, easy Rasteau. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years." Rating 87 (Robert Parker Jr. The Wine Advocate.)
Côtes du Rhône-Villages Rasteau Cuvée La Souco d’Or 2003 — On the nose, lifted floral notes and black fruit, cherries in eau-de-vie, silky-smooth in the mouth, lovely fruit flavours (cherry and raspberry), mid-weight and satisfying with fine structure with persistent and spicy/fruit finish. (JPO, September 05).
Côtes du Rhône-Villages Rasteau Cuvée Paul Emile 2001 — “…spectacular… A dense ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of kirsch liqueur, chocolate, espresso and spicy wood in the background. This impressively soft, full-bodied, concentrated 2001 is delicious, complex and ageworthy. It can be drunk now, but will be even better in 2-3 years. It should last for 10-12 years.” Rating 90 (Robert Parker Jr. The Wine Advocate).
NEW RELEASE!
Rasteau "A la Gloire de Mon Père" 2003 — Gorgeous nose of dark cherry, other black fruits and smoke, carries to the palate with generous fruit, a hint of peach on finale, wonderful finesse, excellent structure, very complex. ***** (JPO/DMO Rasteau June 2007)
“Impressive. Structured with loads of tannin as well as a big sweet, chocolatey nose with notions of scortched earth, ripe black cherry fruit and a candied sweetness, this is an opulent, full-throttle Cotes du Rhone-Villages with soft tannin and high glycerin, alcohol and structure. It is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 15% Mouvedre that should drink well for a decade." Rating 90-92 (Robert Parker Jr. The Wine Advocate)
