Domaine du Bollenberg — Westhalten
Twenty miles south of Colmar at Westhalten, the vineyards of the
Domaine du Bollenberg surround a state ecological reserve featuring
more than 500 species of Mediterranean flora and fauna. Built on the site of the former farm
of a medieval convent dedicated to Sainte Apolline (the patron saint of
dentistry) the Domaine is a working farm, an hotel, and also includes
the L’Auberge au Vieux Pressoir,
an XVIII century Inn. Here the Meyer family feature their own produce,
jellies and jams, foie gras and meats (both fresh and cured) and, in
pride of place, the wines of their own Clos
Sainte-Apolline. These wines, produced using only traditional
vinification methods in oak, are made specifically to accompany the
family’s renowned traditional Alsacian cuisine.
Riesling Cuvée Sélectionnée 2003 — Steel and faint petrol underpin floral aromas on the discreet nose. Firm, fairly full bodied, and dry with exotic flowers and grapefruit on the palate and a warm, almost licorice finish. Very good length. (JPO, Sept.05).
