Domaine de la Camarette — Côtes du Ventoux
The vineyards of Christiane
& Pierre Gontier are located just south of Carpentras,
between St. Didier and Pernes-les-Fontaines. Pierre comes from a family
with three generations of specialization in the raising of vinestock.
He combines his extensive knowledge of viticulture with a modern
winemaking facility on one of the oldest properties in the western
Côtes du Ventoux. Their daughter Nancy,
who has trained as an oenologist and worked marketing wine in the U.S.,
has recently joined the family domaine full-time.
Rosé Côtes de Ventoux 2004 Pierrre Gontier makes a true Provençal Rosé. No 'blending' of red and white wines here, making this vrai rosé means staying up through the night to take the fermenting wine off the grape skins at just the right moment to achieve the delicate 'onion skin' colour and lovely fruit flavours that take one back to summertime in Provence.
Wonderful delicate salmon colour in the glass, wonderful fresh fruits on the nose, lovely weight and richness in mouth, slight early sweetness followed by excellent structure and very good length.
“Terroir Vieilles Vignes” Côtes du Ventoux 2001 — a Silver Medal Winner at Carpentras: “A deeply coloured, Syrah-dominated Rhone blend from 54 year old vines with aromas of raspberry jam, field herbs and plum. The beautiful ripe fruit carries over on to the palate along with some black licorice and anise flavours. These are supported by a solid tannic grip and good acidity. It has a dry, tannic, spicy finish. Good length with a chance to evolve with age.” Wine Access, June 2003.
