Vins de Grandes Cuvées — Muscadet Sèvre et Maine

Chateau du Coing

Véronique Günther-Chéreau owns three superb domaines in the Nantes vinobles. These include the magnificent château and vineyards at Château du Coing du Saint Fiacre that lie at the confluence of the rivers Sévre Nantais and the Petit Maine after which the AOC is named.
Viticulture and winemaking are rigorous passions here, producing wines of great style and with remarkable longevity. Véronique is at the forefront of the 'revival' of Muscadet as serious wine, producing wines that transcend the common perception of an appelation for quick and casual consumption and helping attract the serious attention now being focused on wines from the Nantes vineyards. We invite you to discover why!

Chardonnay ‘Cuvée Aurore’ VdP 2006 — From a corner of the Muscadet vineyard at Château du Coing comes this delightful, unoaked Vin de Pays. “Lovely, biggish aromas of citrus (grapefruit) and white blossoms on the nose, more fruit (peach, plum) in the mouth, perfectly balanced against minerality, rich with a bright citrus finish.” (JPO/DMO, July 07).

Château du Coing de St.-Fiacre 2005 — Our initial Coing Classique from the excellent 2005 vintage is cuvée L6012:
“Excellent nose of fruits (pineapple) flowers and minerals, nice brisk structure supports rich fruit flavours in the mouth, excellent length.” (JPO, DMO July, 2007).  Grand Prix d’Excellence at the 2007 Vinalies.

Coing de Sèvre 2005 — The vineyard at Le Coing is extensive and the ‘Coing de Sèvre’ bottling comes from a plot (L6014) of younger vines (15-25 years) whose wine usually matures early and for that reason is often the first cuvée to be released and tasted.  —“Intriguing nose featuring flowers, minerality and a quiet almond note. Bright fruit continues on the palate with a light, lifted structure a lovely sweet/citrus finish. Very good length.” (JPO, DMO July, 2007).

Chateau du Coing — Grande Cuvée Saint Hilaire Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie 1996 — Something truly special, this is an 10 year-old wine from Coing's finest plots that is not only still Muscadet but one that offers a complex nose of terroir and old fruit, then follows on mouth with very fine citrus flavours, yellow flowers, butter and pear, and a gentle but very fine finish. (JPO St. Fiacre July 2004).
